    What Do You Name Him

    12/1/2024 -

The Prophet Isaiah declared the future coming of a Savior. Like all prophecy and all mystery there was only a shadow of what was to come. For as much as he saw, there was much more he didn’t see. “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) Isaiah didn’t know it, but he was Naming Jesus. Now we can say we understand much more what each of these titles means. We have seen the Lord. The Word has come incarnate, and we have seen his life play out, full of grace and truth. But the real adventure begins when you name Jesus. Jesus asked, “Who do you say that I am?” What will you name Jesus?

    The Word of God

    11/10/2024 -

“Do you really believe that old book? Isn’t the Bible irrelevant? Hasn’t science disproved its claims? Why base your life around one ancient text?” Arguing for a perfect, miraculous, holy book doesn’t resonate with today’s cynicism and skepticism. This isn’t the place to start with someone who doesn’t believe in Jesus Christ. But for believers, this book stands alone. Illuminated by the Holy Spirit, the Word comes alive, and its authority rings like no other. We need the Word of God.

    Who Cares?

    9/15/2024 -

The danger of apathy. What a comical picture! This sluggard is so full of lethargy he reaches into the chip bowl and falls asleep with his hand still outstretched, with not enough energy to even retrieve his hand. He rolls around on his bed like a squeaky hinge on a door, moving without getting anywhere. How do we get so stuck? Some say we are in the “meh” generation, a generation unable to find anything to care about or any reason to get out of bed. Let’s find “gospel hope for those who struggle to care.”

    Vision Weekend 2024

    9/5/2024 -

Finding our way into a lost world that needs Jesus. First Pres is an outpost of disciple-makers answering the call to make disciples of all peoples. We are not just a church FOR Christians, we are a church that MAKES Christians. Part of finding your place here is finding your own way to help with this mission to reach Colorado Springs for Christ. The Discipleship Compass helps us navigate and find our way into new frontiers for the Gospel in our times. Jesus is calling us forward. Our dreams are more important than our memories; the best is yet to come. Our promise is that Sunday morning will be a great place to meet Jesus.

    Jennifer's Farewell Sermon

    8/30/2024 -

From start to finish, the work of salvation belongs to the Lord. Our work is to cultivate a listening heart that is responsive to the voice and call of Jesus. Lydia’s story reminds us of how God works in the life of a listener.

    Salt

    8/4/2024 - 9/1/2024

Jesus spent a lot of time training his disciples to expect to stand out in the world. The world, he said, will not fully understand you. In fact, the world will malign you and think ill of you. You will not be like those around you. How do you recognize and accept the difference but also stay in contact with the world as an agent of change and healthy influence? The image Jesus gave was of salt. Salt preserves what it touches. Salt enhances the good flavor of what it touches. Salt, when taken in, makes a person thirsty. What is it like to be a Christian in a non-Christian world? At work, at school, with family and friends, the way to be salt is to exercise what is called “faithful presence.” You don’t have to dominate; you have to participate, but as a faithful and present believer. Don’t lose your saltiness. The Sermon on the Mount teaches us how to stand out for good in a world gone bad.
