Why would Paul be ashamed of it? Why would anyone? The declaration that Jesus has saved us is also the declaration that we need to be saved. It’s embarrassing to need to be saved. It reveals that we have sinned and must be rescued from the consequences of our own choices. This was not a welcome idea to the Roman mind who liked to conquer the world. Nor to the Hebrew mind accustomed to righteousness through obedience to the law. Telling the good news of the story of what Jesus did is enough to bring salvation. This message is the power of God to save.
