Christmas Eve 2021

Tim McConnell - 12/24/2021

The birth of Jesus is not just for Joseph and Mary’s family, but for all families, for all people. Like the sweet song, “No ear may hear his coming, But in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive him still, The dear Christ enters in. O holy Child of Bethlehem, Descend to us we pray, Cast out our sin and enter in, Be born in us today.” Phillips Brooks was not just waxing poetic to produce a sweet Christmas song, but expressing a very real truth of Jesus. Jesus was born into the world, into a family, into Mary and Joseph’s home, but Jesus is born still. Every heart that opens up to Jesus, turns from sin, gets humble and calls on Him experiences a birth, a new birth of Jesus. Jesus arrives, comes to that person and enters into their lives. It’s not a change of mind, or an adoption of a new set of thoughts, or adaptation to a new way of life, it is a birth of Jesus into the heart and soul of the believer. (Rev 3:20) What we need this Christmas more than any other gift, or turn, is for Jesus to be born in us today.
