The Beautiful Story | Beautiful Promise | Tim McConnell

The Beautiful Story | Beautiful Promise | Tim McConnell

Sep 13, 2020

Passage: Genesis 15:1-6

Preacher: Tim McConnell

Series: The Beautiful Story

Category: Old Testament

Covenant. Throughout the Old Testament we see God’s resolve to never walk away from His creation or turn His back on us. It's one of the most profound and pivotal episodes is God’s covenant with Abraham. From Abraham come three of the world’s largest religions. How we understand God’s covenant with Abraham is critical. God makes a beautiful promise saying to fear not, “you will be a father of nations” (Genesis 17:5). The promise is not about behavior, but at its root is a revelation of the very character and heart of God. “Fear not, I AM your shield” (v. 1). We see the beauty of a God who will not allow His creation to fall into destruction and will not allow us to pitch ourselves headlong toward death. God lovingly, persistently intervenes. Abram believed—he knew God. In this relationship is the hope of renewal ultimately found in Jesus Christ (Galatians 3). We see the character of God on display that Jesus would later celebrate in the Parable of the Prodigal Son, a loving father ready to repair relationship and restore love.

Can you find any beauty in 2020? God made the world beautiful. To philosophers, beauty can be a mystery. If you come along with us you will see beauty is the product of a beautiful God telling a beautiful story in a universe filled with awe-inspiring wonders. You too can play a part in The Beautiful Story of the marvelous love of God.
