Good Job | For the City | Yemi Mobolade

Good Job | For the City | Yemi Mobolade

Feb 09, 2020

Passage: Jeremiah 29:1-14

Preacher: Yemi Mobolade

Series: Good Job

Category: Old Testament

We labor in this city as exiles. God tells us not to hate the city nor to succumb to it, but to work in it as citizens of heaven. This is neither isolationism nor combativeness. We love the city but we do not lose our Christian distinctiveness in the city. Don’t listen to those who tell you to pull out of civic involvement, and also don’t listen to those who say you should disappear into the culture and stop being distinctive in your devotion to Christ. Only because we belong to Jesus and rest our ultimate identity in him are we able to work in the city and do well without being overcome by its draw and appeal.

Most of our life happens outside of church, and for many of us that means it happens at work. Some have careers in the workforce, others have work to do at home with family or volunteering in retirement. Your work matters to God. Your job can be glorious if you glorify God in your job.
