Passage: Philippians 4:4-13

Preacher: Tim McConnell

Series: Give Thanks

Category: New Testament

“Rejoice” is a command. But it is a command for your own good. Rejoice and give thanks in all circumstances and the peace of God that is beyond human comprehension will rest on your life. Joy and gratitude go hand in hand. If you want to increase your experience of joy, try increasing your practices of gratitude and thanksgiving.

Paul wrote his letter to the Philippians from a prison cell, and yet we often refer to it as Paul’s letter of joy. How can that match up? It comes down to gratitude. It is one of the most reliable emotion adaptors—when we give thanks, we feel better. The more we learn to give thanks in all circumstances, the more we experience joy in the Lord.
