Easter Sunday: To Give His Life | He Gave His Life | Tim McConnell

Easter Sunday: To Give His Life | He Gave His Life | Tim McConnell

Apr 04, 2021

Passage: John 19:17-30

Preacher: Tim McConnell

Series: To Give His Life

Category: New Testament, Easter

Around the world, what symbol represents Jesus most? The cross. Why? Because on the cross Jesus paid what we couldn’t pay. Jesus was not some nice teacher or inspiring spiritualist who accidently ran into the buzzsaw of Roman crucifixion. Jesus went to the cross. Jesus gave His life. Jesus paid what we could not pay to fix what we could not fix. Jesus didn’t accidentally die; He gave His life. The cross was an altar of sacrifice, and Jesus, the Good Shepherd, made Himself the sacrificial lamb.

Jesus came to earth for one reason, to give His life away for us. In every moment of ministry, every exchange or interaction, Jesus always knew what was coming. The last week was spent in Jerusalem. This year, for 40 days leading up to Easter, we will relive that week with Jesus. Jesus knew why He came. He came To Give His Life.
