We are only ten days away from one of the most exciting, energizing weekends of our year. Next weekend is CityServe weekend, our signature annual service day to bless Colorado Springs in Jesus’ name. What began four years ago as an effort to get our folks out on the street to bless our city and help our city where it hurts has grown into a movement with leadership from over thirty churches, the attention of the Mayor’s office, and thousands of volunteers with the aim to restore the reputation of Christianity in Colorado Springs and love the city with no strings attached. Visit CityServe COS to get a sense of what this movement has now become.

This year, CityServe begins on Friday night, September 29, at 6:30 with a multi-church worship service and communion. We will hear from a special guest, Kevin Palau, the son of evangelist Luis Palau who now serves as president of the Luis Palau Association. Kevin is the author of the book Unlikely and founder of a CityServe movement in Portland, Oregon, much like what we have here now in Colorado Springs. This is going to be an inspirational night not to be missed!

Then on Saturday, September 30, we head out to 50 different service locations. Last year, 1,500 volunteers contributed 5,000 hours of volunteer service to the city of Colorado Springs. The impact of Christian love was felt across the city, and many people found places of service they wanted to continue in through the year. Have you found a place to serve? Sign up today!

This Sunday morning, September 24, we continue our First Things First series. If God is first, that means living with a “you-first” perspective in a “me-first” world. It means loving your neighbor. This is harder than we might think. But what better way to prepare to serve our city than to get our bearings right with how we go out to love our neighbors? Love one another, Jesus said. That’s how people will see what it means to be a follower of Jesus, if you love one another.
