Commitment Sunday 2022

For 150 years First Pres has stood in the center of our city, opening our doors to anyone who wants to find belonging in the family of God. Creating a place for people to belong. A place where they can learn, grow, serve, help, have a shoulder to cry on and a community to celebrate. It is a priceless gift when we find our life in Christ. This is why church matters.

As we continue to emerge from the pandemic and as we continue to navigate these uncertain waters, this is the Church’s turn to step up and lead. As you pray over your commitment to the church for this next year, will you step up? Let’s continue God’s mission and ministry into our future.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God.”

1 Peter 2:9-10a

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Commitment Sunday?

This practice of committing money to the work of the Lord in the coming year is really just one way to express our commitment to following Christ. It is effective because money means so much to us and sits so close to our hearts. But it is only a sign and symbol—a partial commitment.

What we really need is to encourage one another to express a full commitment of our very lives to follow Jesus our Lord. Not once, not in the hour, but day after day, year after year, so that when we reach our final breath, we can look back on fields and fields of harvest in the faithfulness of the Lord.

Why a Commitment Card?

God doesn’t ask us to promise to give. He simply asks us to give. So what’s the card about? It’s part of the rhythm of each year in the life of our church to consider financial giving each fall.

The card is a tool that can help in several ways:

  1. It can prompt prayer and conversation. It’s an occasion for asking God to lead us in our generosity and for coming to an agreement as a couple or family about what we’ll give.
  2. It’s a spiritual milestone. Many in our congregation have shared that writing down a commitment helps them to remember it and follow through on it.
  3. It helps First Pres to be wise in our financial planning and decisions. We know that God will provide all we need as a church, and we trust Him to do so. But when we have a record of the giving commitments of the people of the church, it allows our leadership to be accountable stewards of God’s provisions.

When can I drop off my Commitment Card at the church building?
